Johor Kakis Neu Tea and TheSlayer Hst suggested that I try the Sarawak kolo mee at Soon Lee 顺利 Kopitiam in Taman Pelangi for breakfast. I tried it this morning and love it. Thanks for the recommendation guys :D

Monday morning is market day along Jalan Sri Pelangi at Taman Pelangi.

The full house Monday morning crowd inside Soon Lee kopitiam. Sharing table with strangers is the norm.

顺利 Kopitiam is popular for it's old school Nanyang kopi made by the boss. Business is brisk. The assistant was waiting with arms stretched, ready to whisk away the kopi even as the kopi boss was brewing it.

顺利 Soon Lee's kaya toast is also very well liked by their regulars.

Back to the Sarawak kolo mee stall, it too was doing business at a frantic pace. The friendly lady boss who is originally from Sabah was a little reserved and camera shy.

The friendly boss obliged our many questions even though she was extremely busy. She had been in the food business for nearly twenty years and had been running this Sarawak kolo mee stall for 7 years.
The boss flash boils every bowl of kolo mee with full concentration. Each bowl of kolo mee is individually boiled as it takes skill and focus to bring out the best from the noodles.

Waiting time for this bowl of Sarawak kolo mee during peak hours is about 30 minutes.

I love the sauce of this kolo mee. It is a blend of pork bone broth, lard and fried shallot oil. After tossing in the fragrant and savoury sauce, the noodles were wet and velvety slick.
The slurpingly smooth noodles were slightly springy to the bite.
The char siew and minced pork were average but the noodles and sauce were enough to win me over.

The kolo mee comes with a bowl of soup and three small wantons. As this stall also sells wanton mee, they use the same wantons. Fragrant minced pork wrapped in thin, slippery and soft wontan skin.
I like this Sarawak kolo mee so much that it inspired me to go hunt for more Sarawak kolo mee in JB. Stay tuned :D
