The MyKuali Penang White Curry Instant Noodles 槟城白咖哩面 craze has been raging for weeks now in Malaysia. There has been a shortage of MyKuali Penang White Curry Instant Noodles supply all across the country, including in Penang itself. There are stories of retailers jacking up the price by as much as 100% the recommended retail price of RM6.80 for a bag of 4 packets.
Though I am not a fan of instant noodles nowadays, I am always the curious cat. I wanted to try MyKuali Penang White Curry Instant Noodles but couldn't find any in Johor Bahru. When I posted in Facebook about my "despair" in finding MyKuali Penang White Curry Instant Noodles, my friends Elaine Tham and Kim Tan, quickly came to my rescue. They kindly bought and gave me MyKuali Penang White Curry instant noodles, enough to last me for a month. Thank you sooo.... much :D
After being deprived for so long, I couldn't wait to find out what MyKuali Penang White Curry Instant Noodles is all about.
This is my first taste test of the newest Malaysian food legend.
For this taste test, I cooked the MyKuali Penang White Curry Instant Noodles following the instructions on the package, to the letter.
For this taste test, I used only the ingredients inside the packet - nothing else. (In future, I can of course eat the instant noodles with eggs, vegetables, fish cake slices, fresh shrimps and so on.)
My bowl of steaming hot MyKuali Penang White Curry Instant Noodles was ready within 10 minutes. (I shall not repeat the instructions on the packet here, except to say that it is very straight forward and simple.)
First, the noodles.
The noodles felt and tasted the same as most other instant noodles made with wheat flour. Nothing remarkable here.
The curry gravy is the difference that made all the difference.
The curry gravy is the best that I have tasted from a packet of instant noodles, so far.
The curry gravy has good body from the non dairy creamer. There is a pleasant savouriness - the packet label mentioned "crustaceans" in the ingredients (not sure if they are referring to shrimps).
The curry gravy has a slight spicy sting that fades very quickly in the mouth. I like that. (Some people said they find the MyKuali curry "very spicy" but I personally felt it has a "just nice" kick.)
The label mentioned use of MSG flavour enhancer and also preservatives.
MyKuali Penang White Curry Instant Noodles tastes better than most instant noodles that I have tried. But, I will still eat it only during emergencies like snack attacks late at night and when I am too lazy to cook or go out.
My first choice will always be freshly made old style curry mee and laksa at my favourite hawker stalls :D
